Painting Port Talbot

I finished this little one on Wednesday: -
Taibach Rugby Club
This is Taibach Rugby Club and it's another of these interesting buildings along the road I live in. So far I've painted the Plaza Cinema, the British Legion, the Taibach Library and now this one, and all within less than a mile along the same road.

Just past the cinema heading towards town Talbot Road becomes Station Road, and its in station Road that you can find my next Port Talbot Project. There's this rather imposing late HSBC Bank: -

I took the photographs I'm using for reference back in January, on a foul and rainy Saturday.

Finished Paintings: British Rail 9F locomotive - Taibach Library

Bit of a bumper day for finishing paintings. Firstly, here's the finished loco: -

Pleased with this. I wanted to see if I could make a better painting than my first attempt at a steam locomotive, and I think I have. Here's the first one: -

Now, as for my second completed painting this evening, here it is - Taibach Library

In case your wondering, Taibach is a district of Port Talbot - the library itself is literally a couple of hundred yards away from my house along the same road.

Project: British Rail 9F locomotive

3 and a bit uninterrupted hours this morning, and we're close to a finish. I deliberately stopped so that there's still a bit to do tomorrow at the Artists' Group. Here's where we are - camera packed in this morning, so here's a scan. It's a bit of a pain since it doesn't pick blue out anything like as well as the camera, but at least you'll get an idea: -

Project: British Rail 9F locomotive

About 4 hours work on this one today. Two photographs - the one on top was with a flash - it's more distinct but doesn't quite show the colours as clearly as the one without a flash, which is less distinct, but shows the colours more faithfully: -

I'm enjoying this one - it's my first steam locomotive since my first ever acrylic painting on canvas back in July, and my Barry Island watercolour in August. I'm by and large using the acrylic paints much as watercolours, and I think it's so far conveying the rather sorry state of this locomotive which, I believe, was awaiting restoration at the time.

Project: British Rail 9F locmotive

I'll finish the Library painting before next Wednesday probably, so I decided to start sketching out my next painting. This time I'm going back to choo choos. My very first acrylic painting was an LMS locomotive - the challenge now is to do a better job with this picture of a British Rail 9F locmotive which was in a bit of a sorry state at the time. Hopefully I'll be able to put what little I've learned in the last 6 months into practice. Here's the sketch onto canvas: -
